Carmen Martinez 1975 Retro Sweatshirt

The RC Celta women's basketball team of the seventies and eighties was a symbol of determination, becoming one of the parts of the club that most fans remember. At the centre of it all was Carmen Martínez, the ‘fighting’ pivot from Vigo. Carmen, born in 1960, was a key player in leading RC Celta to glory, winning 5 Leagues and 4 Queen's Cups, as well as representing the Spanish national team on 40 occasions. With her imposing height of 1.82 metres, she was an unbeatable force on the court, a player who combined physicality, courage and, above all, human qualities.

Her competitive spirit and dedication to the team made her a household name, both on and off the court, where she continued her commitment to the community as a police officer. Despite the injuries and health challenges she faced, Carmen always showed tireless strength and a smile for her teammates. Her legacy lives on in every fan and every girl who decides to take the step of trying to become an athlete, so that her charm and nobility, both on and off the court, will not be forgotten.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...?

- Carmen Martínez made her debut for RC Celta in 1975 and quickly became one of its most prominent figures, and is still today one of the most fondly remembered by Celtic fans.

- She played for the Spanish national team in the European Championship in 1978 and 1980, also making her mark on the international scene.

- A serious knee injury forced her to quit basketball in 1987 at the age of 27.

- Afterwards, she combined her role as a sportswoman with that of a local police officer.

- In addition to Carmen Martínez, who became an international player with the Spanish national team, Marisol Paíno, Ángeles Liboreiro, Virginia Barros, Maribel Lorenzo and Amparo Dios, among others, were part of that squad.
